Ostrava Medical School

Ostrava, located in the north-east of the Czech Republic, just 15km from Poland, is the third largest city of the country with a population of around 300,000 inhabitants. It is the capital of the Moravian-Silesian region. Not as small as Olomouc, yet not as big as Prague, enjoys both the safety and cosiness of a small town as well as the modern facilities of a major one.

Ostrava is another jewel city of the Czech Republic with picturesque views and culture spread all over the city. It is situated on the junction of four rivers, Odra, Opava, Ostravice and Lucina. Theatres and galleries are found everywhere. Restaurants, bars and clubs exist in a huge variety and abundance to please any taste. Ostrava is home to two public universities, the VSB Technical University and the University of Ostrava.

Based at the campus in the city’s Zabren district, the Faculty of Medicine at Ostrava University, ranks among Central Europe’s most modern centres of teaching and research for both medical and non-medical fields. The Faculty currently has around 1700 students in 27 degree programs, with over 400 students graduating every year. Graduates are well-equipped to pursue careers in a worldwide range of medical and healthcare professions.

Graduates from the Medical school of Ostrava, have a unique opportunity, to continue with specialisation directly upon graduation in Ostrava’s University Hospital, anywhere else in the Czech Republic or may choose a country of their preference. All courses and lectures are taught in the English language and the curriculum is exactly the same as the one of the Czech course. The medical school in Ostrava accepts 60 students yearly at the English speaking courses.

General Medicine is a 6 -year program and graduates obtain the degree of Doctor of General Medicine (MUDr.). The annual tuition fees are 8,500 Euros and are payable in Euros.
