1st Faculty of Medicine Charles University


Charles University, the oldest University in Central Europe, was founded in 1348 by the Emperor Charles IV. The First Faculty of Medicine, at Charles University, reigns among the most prestigious and recognised Medical Schools worldwide. It is housed in a traditional and historic building, in Prague, equipped with the most recent and cutting edge facilities. Graduates from Charles University, have a unique opportunity as they can continue with specialisation, directly upon graduation in the Czech Republic or may choose a country of their preference. All courses and lectures are taught in the English language and the curriculum is exactly the same as the one of the Czech course. There are 1,100 members of staff of 1,100 from whom 100 are professors. Around 3,400 students are enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine. Each year Charles University accepts 150 students for Medicine and 25 for Dentistry, for the English speaking courses.

Most of the teaching facilities are located in the centre of Prague, near Charles´ square. The majority of the clinical instruction takes place at the General University Hospital in Prague. Other teaching hospitals include the Military University Hospital in Prague, Thomayer Teaching Hospital, Bulovka Hospital and Motol University Hospital. Charles First Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry has one of the highest demands for specialisation from doctors all over Europe.

General Medicine is a 6-year program and graduates obtain the degree of Doctor of General Medicine (MUDr.). The annual tuition fees are 400,000 CZK (approximately 15,000 Euros) and are payable in Czech Korunas (CZK).

Dentistry is a 5 year program and graduates obtain the degree of Doctor of Dental Medicine (MDDr). The annual tuition fees are 400,000 CZK (approximately 15,000 Euros) and are payable in Czech Korunas (CZK).
